Mets' Daniel Murphy diagnosed with 'mild strain'

NEW YORK -- New York Mets infielder Daniel Murphy was diagnosed with a "mild strain" of his left quadriceps muscle and officially is day to day, the team announced. Murphy was examined Thursday, a day after pulling himself from the series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Mets also confirmed that left-handed reliever Dario Alvarez will join the team on Friday in Miami after spending the required 10 days in the minors since his demotion.

Matt Harvey (dehydration) is expected to rejoin the Mets as well for the series opener against the Miami Marlins.
