Jets elevate OLB Sapp

The Jets filled the 53rd spot on their roster Thursday, signing OLB Ricky Sapp from the practice squad, the team announced.

Sapp, a fifth-round pick of the Eagles in 2010, has been on and off the Jets' practice squad for about a year. He has been active for only one game, the 2011 finale.

On Wednesday, Rex Ryan mentioned that some players on defense would have expanded roles in Sunday's game against the Seahawks. With the pass rush struggling, Ryan might give Sapp a chance as a situational pass rusher.

The Jets have only 12 sacks, 29th in the league. In fact, the Jets and the Jaguars are the only teams that don't have a player with more than two sacks, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Rookie S Antonio Allen, whom the Jets waived Tuesday, cleared waivers and was re-signed to the practice squad.
