Giants lose another starting lineman as Geoff Schwartz fractures his leg

LANDOVER, Md. -- The New York Giants showed up for Sunday's game against Washington without two of their starting offensive linemen, and they quickly lost a third when guard Geoff Schwartz left the game in the first quarter with what the team called a lower-leg fracture.

With center Weston Richburg already out with a high ankle sprain and guard Justin Pugh out for a second straight game due to concussion symptoms, the interior of the Giants' offensive line currently features rookie Bobby Hart at right guard, John Jerry at left guard and Dallas Reynolds at center. Other than starting tackles Ereck Flowers and Marshall Newhouse, backup tackle Emmett Cleary is the only other active offensive lineman on the Giants' roster Sunday.

Schwartz's injury was initially announced as a knee injury that wouldn't keep him from returning to the game. But that appears to have been a mistake. It was later announced as an ankle injury, with a questionable designation. And then midway through the second quarter, the Giants announced the injury as a fracture in the lower leg and that Schwartz would not return to the game. There are no further details available at this time, but with a broken leg, you'd have to think Schwartz misses the final five games of the season as well.

Schwartz was also one of three backup center options for the Giants in case Reynolds got hurt. The other two are Cleary and Newhouse.
