Rapid Reaction: Giants draft a DT

PLAYER: Markus Kuhn

SCHOOL: North Carolina State

POSITION: DT

HEIGHT: 6-4

WEIGHT: 299

The Giants used their final pick in the draft on a raw but powerful defensive tackle from Germany. Kuhn, 25, is still learning the game but the Giants like his energy, size, strength and ability to move.

THE 411: Kuhn, who is from Weinheim, Germany, had 45 tackles and 4.5 sacks last season for the Wolfpack. Tom Coughlin said the Giants evaluated Kuhn "at a high level" and that they liked his gym numbers. Coughlin called Kuhn a "physical player, penetrator, still learning the game."

HOW HE FITS IN: The Giants have Chris Canty, Linval Joseph, Marvin Austin, the recently signed Shaun Rogers, Dwayne Hendricks and Martin Parker at defensive tackle.

PROJECTED IMPACT: Kuhn will provide depth and may have to fight for a spot on the roster. But the Giants are high on his motor and raw ability.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: Jerry Reese likened Kuhn to the Giants' energetic guard Mitch Petrus in attitude and effort.

"Gym rat, big, strong, tough," Reese said. "Great to put in your D-line rotation. Still learning. He is the Mitch Petrus of defensive tackles. … He is like a buzz saw."
