Jason Kidd returning to the Nets? To back up Deron Williams?

It could happen.

"My days of playing 38 minutes are over," Kidd said during a Monday conference call with reporters.

Kidd, arguably the greatest player to ever wear a New Jersey Nets uniform, led the team to two NBA Finals appearances during his time in the Garden State.

He has spent the past 4.5 seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, who are reportedly going to be the Nets' biggest competition for Williams' services. According to the New York Daily News, Kidd would be open to staying in Dallas and playing on a one-year deal.

"I'd be fine with starting or not starting, but I want to be able to finish the game," Kidd said. "I'm all about winning at this point."

Kidd was also asked about the Knicks.

"That would be a lot of fun to help a player like that," Kidd said of playing behind Jeremy Lin. "Just share the things that helped me be successful in this league."

Jordan Farmar has a player option he can choose to exercise, creating a potential Nets log jam at point guard if Williams re-signs -- Brooklyn can offer him $28 million more than any other team -- and Kidd elects to pick Brooklyn.

At that point, though, the Nets would be doing cartwheels.
