Thunder 105, Knicks 78; NYK embarrassed without Melo

The New York Knicks completed a road trip to forget with a brutal 27-point loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night.

The team was without Carmelo Anthony for the second straight game due to back spasms, so a loss was understandable.

But the Knicks were non-competitive for long stretches against the Thunder.

Energized by the return of Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City jumped out to a 25-8 lead and never looked back. The Thunder led by as many as 37 as the Knicks had their lowest-scoring game of the season.

Too much Russ: Westbrook showed no rust following a four-week absence due to a fractured right hand. The Thunder point guard had 13 of his team’s first 25 points, simply overwhelming New York.

Westbrook finished with 32 points on 12-for-17 shooting. He hit three of his four 3-point attempts and handed out eight assists. Oklahoma City outscored the Knicks by 24 points in Westbrook’s 24 minutes.

No Melo, big problems: The Knicks’ offense was strong in their first game without Anthony -- on Wednesday night against the Dallas Mavericks. Not so much on Friday night. Amar’e Stoudemire (6-for-7, 15 points) was the lone bright spot for New York.

The New York starters missed 26 of 36 attempts. J.R. Smith went 1-for-9 from the field. Tim Hardaway missed six of his seven 3-point attempts. Overall, the Knicks shot 39 percent, including 2-for-19 from beyond the arc.

The Knicks went 0-3 on their road trip. They will host the Miami Heat on Sunday.

Question: Knicks shooting guards went 8-for-32 on Friday night. What can Derek Fisher do to get more production out of his guards?
