Defense looking for payback on Day 4 of New York Jets' camp

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Sunday morning's wake-up call at New York Jets camp ...

What's happening: The players will be on the field for 1:50 p.m. ET stretching, followed by special teams work. The actual practice starts at 2:20. It's open to the public (with a valid ticket). It's alumni day, so there will be many former Jets in attendance.

What's hot: The defense, supposedly the strength of the team, will look for redemption after a shaky Saturday. Todd Bowles wasn't happy with the stamina of the defense, claiming it wore down in the heat. We'll see if the D responds to the challenge. ... One of the top items on the "areas to improve" list is takeaways -- a league-low 13 last season. Obviously, that has to increase if the Jets hope to challenge for a playoff spot. So far, not so good. The defense has yet to intercept Geno Smith or Ryan Fitzpatrick. What's up with that? ... Looking for an unheralded player to watch? Keep an eye on wide receiver Chris Owusu. He's having a fantastic camp. Devin Smith's injury -- out four to six weeks with broken ribs and a partially punctured lung -- will create extra reps for the second tier of wideouts. This is Owusu's chance. ... Two players remain in the physically-unable-to-perform list -- running back Stevan Ridley (knee) and defensive lineman Kevin Vickerson (hamstring).
