It's time to start paying attention to roadside billboards in Jacksonville.

Former New York Jets general manager John Idzik, who spent the last three months working as a salary-cap consultant for the Jacksonville Jaguars, has been hired to a full-time position, according to the Florida Times-Union.

His new title: Special assistant to the general manager.

"He'll do a little bit of everything," GM Dave Caldwell told the newspaper. "He's a great cultural fit for us. He has a great understanding of the salary cap and the different ways to do a contract." And he also will do some pro and college scouting.

There's no need for a detailed rehash of Idzik's two seasons with the Jets. We'll keep it to this: He did a poor job last season, damaged his credibility with an ill-conceived, midseason news conference, got caught in a media firestorm that emboldened the fan base (see: billboards and planes) and lost a power struggle to Rex Ryan. Obviously, Ryan lost, too.

But now Idzik is back in his comfort zone, with a chance to revive his career. Everybody is entitled to that opportunity.
