Rex Ryan rips Jace Amaro, take two.

Continuing his verbal assault on the second-year tight end, the former New York Jets coach hinted in an interview Saturday with WFAN that Amaro might want to watch his back when he plays the Buffalo Bills this season.

It was Amaro who, in a recent radio interview, said the 2014 Jets -- Ryan's team -- lacked accountability.

"The kid's got some talent," Ryan told WFAN host Kim Jones. "I'm just going to leave it at that. I just know one thing: He totally misspoke, and talk about accountable -- he's going to be accountable when he go to play him. He's going to be accountable for his comments."

Clearly, Amaro touched a nerve. Ryan first responded in this week's edition of Sports Illustrated, saying Amaro is "full of s---." He didn't back down when asked about it Saturday.

"It's not the truth," Ryan said. "That kid's a little ... he's going to get ... we'll see what happens."

Ryan apparently isn't an Amaro fan. He tried to shrug off the critical words, painting them as the ramblings of an immature player.

"I just know it's not the truth, and for him or anybody else to pop off like that, I think is absolutely a joke," Ryan said. "Now, look, if David Harris would have said something, or D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Nick Mangold, or someone, I would be hurt by it. I would be absolutely devastated by it. But a kid like that? Nah. I know him, and that doesn't bother me one bit."

But here's the thing: Mangold questioned the team's practice habits early last season when the penalties started to mount. The strongest words came from linebacker Demario Davis, who said after a blowout loss to the San Diego Chargers that "we’re not practicing like a championship football team." He wasn't trying to criticize Ryan -- he actually blamed himself -- but it was perceived in some quarters as an indictment of the coaching.

Somewhere, Channing Crowder and Brandon Jacobs are smiling. Once upon a time, they, too, were on the receiving end of Ryan rants.
