Giants offensive line healthier than was feared

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Giants have had numerous injuries yet again this training camp, but there was some positive news on the health front on Thursday.

Right tackle Marshall Newhouse, who went down near the end of Wednesday's practice with a foot injury, is OK.

"I got stepped on while I was engaged in a block and went down," Newhouse said on Thursday. "It scared me for a second, but I think all is well."

And center Weston Richburg, who has missed some practice time with a sore left knee, is feeling better, too.

"It just all of a sudden popped up this year," Richburg said. "We’re trying to figure it out now, figure out how we can kind of eliminate this problem before the season rolls around."

We'll have to wait and see whether Newhouse and Richburg play in Saturday night's preseason game against the New York Jets, though.

Coach Tom Coughlin did confirm that wideout Victor Cruz (calf) will not play Saturday, and he had no new information on linebacker Jon Beason (knee), who is week-to-week.

Rookie safety Landon Collins (knee) will play against the Jets, but fellow safety Nat Berhe has re-injured his calf after just one practice back with the team.

Linebacker Mark Herzlich (concussion) had been feeling better but didn't feel well Thursday, said Coughlin, meaning his return is not imminent.

Back to the bright side, cornerback Prince Amukamara (groin) will get his first preseason game action against the Jets.

"I feel like I’m completely over [the injury]," Amukamara said. "I’ve been full-go, not limited in any reps, and I’ve been able to do everything that I did before I got injured."
