Our man Mike Sando, with the help of our ESPN Insiders group, put together a list of grades for all 32 teams in free agency so far. The New York Giants got a C-plus for their extensive efforts, which have seen them sign 19 free agents to fill a variety of needs on both sides of the ball. Mike, Louis Riddick and Matt Williamson offered their opinions on the Giants. Here's a bit of what Matt had to say, to whet your whistle:

"With the moves they made, they said, 'Yeah, we are not a piece or two away. We need five starters in free agency and none will be Pro Bowlers, but give me a lineman, a corner, etc.' They are not huge winners or losers, but I approve of their approach."

I would say I agree with the evaluation, and the assessment of the team's thought process. You can pick out which of the Giants' moves you like the best -- Geoff Schwartz for guard, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie for cornerback, Rashad Jennings for running back, whatever. But you can't run from the fact that this team that hates to build through free agency correctly identified that it had no other choice this year due to its decayed roster. How did they do? We will find out, and we will judge it on on-field performance. The way in which the Giants augment their free-agent efforts in the draft will affect the evaluation as well. But I think a middling grade is about right. The Giants did what they could, and a portion of what they needed to do, which was a lot.
