METAIRIE, La. -- I didn’t have enough room in my three up/three down post to get to everything that went wrong for the New Orleans Saints in their 39-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

In addition to the struggles I pointed out, it was also a rough day for two newcomers making their debut with the Saints – tight end Michael Hoomanawanui and punter Brandon Fields.

Hoomanawanui lost a fumble with 9 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter while the Saints were trailing 29-10. The veteran tight end, who was acquired two weeks ago in a trade with the New England Patriots for defensive lineman Akiem Hicks, caught two passes for a net total of 4 yards. He played 19 snaps.

Fields, meanwhile, shanked two punts in the second half – a 13-yarder in the third quarter and a 36-yarder in the fourth. Fields got off to a good start before the struggles. He had six punts, including a long of 57 yards. But coach Sean Payton singled out the punting while rattling off a list of the team's struggles after Sunday's loss.

Fields was signed as an injury replacement last week after Saints punter Thomas Morstead strained a quadriceps. It’s unclear if Morstead has any chance of returning this week, with a quick turnaround before the Saints host the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night. It will be interesting to see if the Saints stick with Fields.
