Saints' Curtis Lofton, Panthers' Brandon Williams fined for brawl

METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints linebacker Curtis Lofton and Carolina Panthers tight end Brandon Williams were each fined $8,268 for their roles in last Sunday's end-zone brawl. No other players were fined, including Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan.

Lofton and Williams were also the only two players penalized at the time, with Williams being ejected for throwing punches.

Lofton was penalized for shoving Newton in the back after he felt Newton was taunting Jordan following a touchdown. Lofton said last Sunday that he “saw it as straight disrespectful” and would have responded the way he did, “100 times out of 100.”

Jordan also was not fined for his 15-yard personal foul penalty for hitting Newton on his way out of bounds later in the game. Replays showed that Jordan's hit came while Newton was still in bounds, so there probably shouldn't have been a flag in the first place.
