Free-agent offensive lineman Dan Connolly, who served as a captain for the New England Patriots in 2014, is scheduled to visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday. Should Connolly land in Tampa, he would be reunited with one of his close friends, former Patriots guard Logan Mankins. The Buccaneers also have ties to the Patriots in the front office, with general manager Jason Licht and his assistant Jon Robinson. Connolly, who turns 33 on Sept. 2, has played in 89 career regular-season games (71 starts). Entering his 10th NFL season in 2015, he has been with the Patriots since 2007 when he landed on their practice squad and ultimately elevated to key contributor with the ability to play both guard spots and center. Last season, his move to Mankins' long time left guard spot was part of the spark that helped the Patriots' offensive line recover from a slow start. And, of course, he's shown a knack for the dynamic kickoff return at times.
