Scout's Take: WR Montrell Estell to Texas

ESPN 300 prospect Montrell Estell is on board with the Longhorns. Read below to see how Estell can make an impact for Texas:

What he brings: He is tall, long, smooth and very athletic. Estell has great range and overall athleticism and given his size is very loose and flexible and has very long limbs. Speed is much better on a straight line when he can build to it than it looks on the surface, but he can cover a lot of ground. He makes a ton of plays on both sides of the football and always seems to be in the right place at the right time. He is a serious mismatch against this level of competition which can be deceiving. He has great ball skills and given his size does a really nice job after the catch. He is so long and agile that it makes him very slippery and elusive.

How he fits: Texas needs more playmakers aside from John Burt who had a terrific freshman year despite abysmal quarterback play. The question is whether or not Estell could be every bit as viable on defense. If he stays on offense he is going to have to develop as a route runner -- very raw in this area. His natural playmaking instincts could get him on the field fairly early.

Reminds us of: Dwayne Stanford, Oregon -- One of Stanford’s better traits is his length and flexibility to coordinate and adjust to poorly thrown balls. This is what stands out about Estell as well. He makes a lot of acrobatic plays.

How the class is shaping up: The Longhorns have signed back-to-back top-10 classes despite going 11-14 and are slowly regaining momentum in the state after last year's mad dash on signing day. ESPN 300 quarterback Sam Ehlinger plays for Texas high school coaching legend Todd Dodge. East Texas is vital for the Longhorns, and the work of assistant Jeff Traylor is paying off with a trio of ESPN 300 commitments -- Lagaryonn Carson, tight end Major Tennison and receiver Damion Miller. Center Xavier Newman was a key commitment in the Dallas area, as was versatile defensive back Kobe Boyce.
