Joseph Lewis has been somewhat slow in his approach to the recruiting process. But the nation’s No. 15 overall prospect and No. 2 wide receiver is moving things along this spring and has a few ideas in place.

The 6-foot-2, 207-pound receiver holds offers from programs across the country, but said a few stand out at this point, including Arizona, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Oregon.

Arizona holds a commitment from Lewis’ teammate and fellow ESPN 300 prospect, athlete Greg Johnson. Nebraska has been making a huge push in California in this class, has commitments from quarterback Tristan Gebbia and wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson Jr., and will likely receive visits from a dozen or more California prospects. Oklahoma is another program in that region that always finds recruiting success in California, evidenced by signing Jordan Parker and Caleb Kelly from the state in the 2016 class.

Lewis said he’s also hearing plenty from USC, as the Trojans look to keep the talented pass-catcher home.

“Me and (USC offensive coordinator) [Tee] Martin are talking,” Lewis said. “He wants me to come up to campus and chill with the coaching staff and have a good talk with them.”

At this point, Lewis believes he will take all five official visits before making a decision -- perhaps during the Army All-American Bowl. He said he plans to take official visits to Arizona, Nebraska and Oklahoma.

“Whenever I’m comfortable committing, I’ll talk to my coaches and see what’s best for me,” Lewis said. “I’ll commit whenever I want to.”

With so many programs pulling at Lewis to leave the state, he said he goes back and forth on whether he’ll head to college outside state lines.

“It’s just where I feel comfortable,” Lewis said of which program he’ll commit to. “Sometimes I feel like just to stay home to be close to my family.”
