Nation's No. 3 RB, Devwah Whaley, releases top 5

The nation's top uncommitted running back, Devwah Whaley, continues to trim his list. After cutting his list to a workable number late in the spring, the talented Texan announced a top 5 via Twitter on Saturday.

The Sooners were considered the favorite heading into the summer for the 2016 Under Armour All-America Game selection due to the diligent work of offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley and a strong relationship with Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops, and remain in the pole position.

In-state Texas A&M and Texas have both helped the cause in June by hosting the nation's No. 49-ranked prospect on unofficial visits. The Aggies were one of the first two schools to offer the Golden Triangle budding star and have had Whaley on campus more than any other school.

Arkansas remains in the hunt due to the work assistants Clay Jennings and Jemal Singleton, while Georgia has a connection with assistant Rob Sale due to recruiting the Beaumont area while at McNeese State from 2012-14, which is less than an hour from Beaumont.

Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas, Arkansas and Georgia all have something in common in the Whaley sweepstakes: None of the top 5 have a running back committed in the 2016 class.

Whaley told RecruitingNation in early May that the ability to get on the field early would be key in his ultimate decision, as would the environment.

"First off, academics is first. Then a great fit for me all around," Whaley said on May 5. "Not just the coaches, but the environment around me. The players are big, feeling like home is important because I will be going away from home for college. Of course, getting on the field early is important. I ask the coaches about the number of backs on the depth chart and how the depth chart will be when I get there."

Whaley is looking to make a decision in the day prior to the season or at the Under Armour All-America Game.
