Notre Dame has one ESPN Jr. 300 prospect committed in the 2016 class -- offensive lineman Tommy Kraemer -- but the Irish are hoping to change that this weekend. Coach Brian Kelly and his staff are set to host a huge weekend with more than 20 visitors from the 2016 class alone.
Here is a look at some of the bigger names expected on campus.
ESPN Jr. 300 Rank: 23
Haskins would be an excellent fit for what Notre Dame wants at quarterback, but it will be difficult to land the No. 2 ranked pocket passer. The Irish will be fighting with the likes of Ohio State, Maryland, Oklahoma, and a few other schools for his service.
DB Damar Hamlin
ESPN Jr. 300 Rank: 103
Hamlin hails from Pennsylvania, so Notre Dame will have to fight with Penn State for this one. The Nittany Lions would really like to have Hamlin in this class, so it could take a lot to overcome that. Notre Dame is definitely in the mix, though, so getting him on campus this early is only a positive for the Irish.
ESPN Jr. 300 Rank: 194
Notre Dame is in the mix for Holyfield, but he is still considering a few SEC schools as well. Distance doesn’t seem to be a factor in his decision, so this visit might help the Irish.
WR Austin Mack
ESPN Jr. 300 Rank: 198
Mack is interested in Notre Dame, but the feeling is Ohio State might be the leader as of now. He plans to make a decision in June, and will visit the Buckeyes again before he announces. It can’t hurt for Notre Dame to get him on campus, though, as anything can happen in recruiting.
ESPN Jr. 300 Rank: 232
Mitchell is making the trip from New Jersey with a few other prospects, and though Notre Dame is in the conversation, he will also be a tough pull. The home team of Rutgers, Michigan, and Ohio State will all be factors. Mitchell will double dip on this trip, visiting both Notre Dame and Michigan over the weekend.
ESPN Jr. 300 Rank: 254
Corley is still open, so this visit could help Notre Dame. That being said, Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State seem like the three schools sticking out front for now.
Other prospects expected: DT Naquan Jones, DE Ron Johnson, DE Khalid Kareem, and OL Michael Jordan among others.
