Best of the visits: ACC

ACC programs made their last recruiting pitches on official visits over the weekend. While it wasn’t an action-packed weekend with campuses full of top targets, there were two big-time prospects on the campuses of Florida State and Louisville who could be impactful for Miami (Fla.) and the ACC race in 2015.

Florida State

The Seminoles have a need for a second running back in the 2015 class and this weekend hosted ESPN 300 No. 135 Jordan Scarlett. The Miami commit tweeted out a picture in a Seminoles jersey Saturday that was a popular retweet.

Scarlett followed up with a tweet this morning that he has decommitted from Miami and will announce his decision Feb. 2.

Scarlett visited the Hurricanes Jan. 16 and Florida Jan. 23 before heading to Tallahassee this weekend. Miami had strong academics and a private-school setting working in its favor, but Florida is countering the academics and Florida State is selling that the Seminoles' program is at another level from the Hurricanes currently. This one looks like the Seminoles or Gators, with Florida State getting the last word.

A second official visitor on hand in Tallahassee was receiver/tight end commitment Auden Tate. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Tate took to Twitter over the weekend, including a picture with Scarlett.

Tight end is a major need for the Seminoles in the 2015 class. Tate projects as a flex tight end long term and joins four-star Jalen Wilkerson as versatile tight ends in Florida State's class.

Louisville

There was a game-changer-level recruit on hand this weekend for the Cardinals in former TCU star defensive end and current juco prospect Devonte Fields. Fields would be a huge get for Bobby Petrino and staff. In fact, he would be one of the very best players coming into the FBS ranks in the 2015 class. Fields would likely be an All-ACC-level performer for a season before heading off to the NFL.

North Carolina

The Tar Heels hosted talented receiver Gary Jennings over the weekend. The former Wisconsin commitment is locked into a battle between Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina. Jennings had the best tweet of any prospect on a visit in ACC country over the weekend -- in the Dean Dome hanging on the rim.
