100 days, 100 players: No. 6 DeMarco Murray

In the 100 days leading up to signing day 2015, RecruitingNation will be looking back at our ESPN recruiting rankings from 2006 to the present and counting down the best player of the past 10 years at each ranking position, No. 100 to No. 1.

DeMarco Murray, No. 6 in 2006 class

Murray's recruitment was hotly contested coming out of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas.

After picking Oklahoma and redshirting in 2006, Murray quickly became one of the Big 12’s most feared running backs in 2007. He rushed for 764 yards and 13 touchdowns and accumulated 1,263 all-purpose yards in 11 games before dislocating a kneecap. He was selected honorable mention All-Big 12 by the league coaches.

As a third-year sophomore in 2008, Murray rushed for 1,002 yards and 14 TDs. He also topped 2,000 all-purpose yards, finishing with a school single-season record 2,171 yards and 18 total touchdowns on his way to All-Big 12 first-team honors from the league coaches. He missed the Big 12 championship game and the BCS Championship because of a hamstring injury, however.

In 2009, Murray rushed for 705 yards and eight scores and totaled 1,227 all-purpose yards and 12 TDs, earning All-Big 12 second-team by the coaches.

Murray rebounded as a senior in 2010 and rushed for 1,214 yards and 15 TDs. He also caught 71 passes for 594 yards and five TDs.

The versatile back finished his Sooners’ career with 3,685 rushing yards, 1,571 receiving yards and a school-record 6,718 all-purpose yards despite missing time to injuries. He's Oklahoma's all-time touchdowns leader, all-time leader in receiving yards for a running back and all-time leader in kickoff return average.

Murray was selected in the third round, No. 71 overall, by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2011 draft. He has become one of the best running backs in the NFL, having been named to back-to-back Pro Bowls. He was the NFL's rushing leader in 2014 with 1,845 yards.

Honorable mention: Trent Richardson, No. 6 in 2009 class. Richardson starred at Alabama with 3,130 rushing yards and 35 TDs in three seasons and 2011 All-American honors before heading to the NFL draft in 2012, when he was selected No. 3 overall by the Cleveland Browns. Lamarcus Joyner, No. 6 in the 2010 class, was an All-ACC performer at Florida State and was selected in the second round (No. 41 overall) in the 2014 NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams. Landon Collins, No. 6 in the 2012 class, is projected to be a first-round selection in the 2015 draft after a stellar career as a safety at Alabama. Matthew Thomas, No. 6 in the 2013 class, just finished his redshirt freshman season at Florida State and came on strong in the second half of the 2014 season.
