On Oct. 5, 1996 in Columbus, Ohio -- as the Clinton-Dole presidential race headed down the homestretch, and right around the time when many of this year's freshman college football players were being born -- ESPN college football analyst Lee Corso threw on a Brutus Buckeye head at the end of "College GameDay" and predicted third-ranked Ohio State would beat No. 4 Penn State.

The crowd went nuts, the Bucks went on to win the game, and a tradition was born. In the 18 years since that show outside the Horseshoe, the lovable Corso has put on various headgear every week -- and Saturday's selection at West Virginia will mark the 250th time he's ended "GameDay" in grand fashion.

If history is any indication, his prediction will be a good omen for either the Horned Frogs or Mountaineers this weekend. Corso has correctly predicted 10 straight Week 10 winners, having not lost on that spot in the calendar since incorrectly picking David Pollack's Georgia Bulldogs to beat Florida in 2002.

The Roots: Dating to his first official headgear pick more than 18 years ago, Lee is 171-78 in headgear picks -- including 7-2 this season.

Nifty Fifty: Lee has donned the headgear of 50 different schools (here's a fun GIF-filled look back at all of them). A West Virginia pick this week would be a 51st. In the show's only other trip to Morgantown (2011), Corso correctly predicted LSU would beat WVU.

Fight On: When can the "GameDay" gang get to another USC game? Lee has never lost a headgear selection involving that school. He is 16-0 when picking the Trojans and 5-0 when picking against them.

From the Heart: Lee has picked Florida State, his alma mater, 19 times and is 13-6 in those games. He has picked against FSU five times -- and has been correct on three of those occasions.

Bowling, Anyone? In 23 bowl headgear games, Lee is 13-10. But he correctly picked underdog Michigan State to win the Rose Bowl last season, seven-point underdog Florida to beat Ohio State in the 2006 BCS National Championship Game, seven-point underdog Texas to beat USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl, and seven-point underdog LSU to win the 2004 Sugar Bowl, which decided the national championship.

Dog Days: Lee has picked 55 underdogs and is 26-29 in those games. But the past five underdogs he's picked to win have all turned out victorious.

Roll Tide: Lee has put on Alabama headgear the most (20 times) and is 13-7 when picking the Crimson Tide. Florida State is next with 19, followed by Florida and Ohio State at 18.

Irish Eyes Are Cryin': Lee has picked against Notre Dame more times than any other team (14). He is 9-5 when picking against the Irish.

Well, We're Comin' ... To Your City: Lee has put on headgear in 67 different cities and towns across America.

Don’t Pick Us! Lee has picked Georgia four times -- and Georgia has lost all four games. The Bulldogs are the only team Lee has picked more than twice while failing to win any of them. He is 7-4 when picking against UGA.

We’re No. 1: Lee has picked a game involving a No. 1-ranked team 68 times. He’s 44-24 in those games.
