Scout's Take: ESPN 60 guard Coby White commits to North Carolina

Five-star guard Coby White only needed three days to accept an offer from head coach Roy Williams. White, No. 21 in the ESPN 60 committed to the North Carolina Thursday.

Let's take a look at what White will bring to Chapel Hill.

Why he committed: White had a great unofficial visit earlier this summer and got to know and play with current Tar Heels players where they impressed each other both on and off the court. White felt the Tar Heels were a great fit in addition to being close to home.

What he brings: White is a long and lean scoring point guard. At 6-foot-4 he uses his length and athletic ability to excel in transition where he can get to the rim and complete plays with touch and body control. White has a very well-rounded game and an excellent basketball IQ. He is capable of scoring big numbers from a variety of areas on the court. He has very good speed, athleticism to go along with a an excellent motor. He can make teammates better with his passing and he is a good perimeter rebounder especially for the guard position. White is very productive on and off the ball. He will need to add strength as he continues to develop and grow into his body but his upside is tremendous.

Style of play fit: White has all the tools to be excellent in the Carolina break whether he is leading the break at the point or running the outside lane. He can score and make plays from both positions at high speeds. White will be a scoring threat from the top of the key area and from the wing in the halfcourt set. Deep jumpers off ball screens, being a distributor or receiver in drive and drop situations or just making a quick first step, one-on-one slash to the rim. White creates match-up problems with his length in switching situations both offensively and defensively.

Who he reminds us of: White's ability to score and create for teammates brings to mind a younger version of Lakers guard Jordan Clarkson with continued focus and development.

How the class is shaping up: White joins another ESPN 60 performer in No. 26 Rechon Black. Both White and Black will provide the Heels with great length, skill, scoring, tremendous overall versatility and upside at the guard position.
