Heading into the all-important July recruiting period, we take a look at recruiting needs and gameplans for the top 25 programs in college basketball. Next up, the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Where they are: A last-second 3-point shot away from a national title, North Carolina is coming off a 33-7 season in which the Tar Heels won the ACC regular-season title and then cruised to the championship game before falling to Villanova. Brice Johnson and Marcus Paige are the key departures from a season ago, with Johnson developing into one of the best big men in college basketball during his senior season. Paige had his ups and downs as a senior, but he made clutch shots late in the year and was a terrific four-year player for the Tar Heels. Joel James is also gone. Roy Williams brings in three ESPN 100 prospects, including five-star center Tony Bradley. Rising junior guard Joel Berry II took a major step last season, and Justin Jackson and Kennedy Meeks decided to return to Chapel Hill for another year instead of going to the NBA draft.
