NBA Rumor Central: Magic expected to target veteran free agents

The Orlando Magic are young team in desperate need of veteran leadership on and off the floor, which is the reason GM Rob Hennigan will be very active July 1 when the 2016-17 free-agent market opens. Normally, the Magic are tight-lipped about their plans, but that philosophy has changed.

“Because that’s what we need at this point in time to take the next step,” Magic CEO Alex Martins told the Orlando Sentinel. “Secondly, this has been a plan, this has been a process."

Orlando will have between $34 million to $47 million in salary-cap room this offseason. Possible free-agent targets could include Al Horford (Atlanta), Joakim Noah (Chicago) and David West (San Antonio), speculates the Sentinel's Josh Robbins.

Orlando's Dewayne Dedmon (restricted), Evan Fournier (restricted), Andrew Nicholson (restricted), Brandon Jennings and Jason Smith become free agents July 1, and only Fournier is virtually guaranteed to re-sign with the Magic.
