Report: Drummond, Pistons 'dean' at 22, is ready to accept leadership role

Andre Drummond heads into his fourth season with the Detroit Pistons as the longest-tenured player on the club at the relatively tender age of 22. That happens when you're drafted at age 18 and Stan Van Gundy flips over much of the roster during his first season in charge of Pistons personnel.

Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press recently expounded on Drummond's expanded role with the team and asked the 6-foot-10 center about it:

"As the guy with the longest tenure in a Pistons uniform, it's only natural that he starts to grow into a leadership role. And as the team's most dominant player - and considering that he will become the highest-paid player in franchise history in the near future - it is almost demanded of Drummond. 'Really, coming here when I was 17, 18 years old and seeing how it was, seeing guys come in and come out and being able to be around at such a young age, and now I'm 22 - I kinda know what it takes to win and what it takes to be a leader,' Drummond said."

Drummond has missed only one start during the past two seasons after making only 10 in his rookie year as the ninth-overall draftee. He averaged a double-double last season (13.8 points, 13.5 rebounds) in 30.5 minutes per game.
