Report: Alexander to compete for roster spot

Forward Cliff Alexander, an undrafted 2015 rookie out of Kansas, signed with the Portland Trail Blazers on July 24. Alexander is one of two players who doesn't have full salary protection for 2015-16, which will place him on the roster bubble during training camp and the preseason. From Mike Richman of The Oregonian:

"Despite his struggles at Kansas, Alexander has an NBA ready frame and impressive athleticism for a 6-9 forward which led him to declaring for the NBA draft. ... Alexander still has plenty of room to improve at 19-years old and has the size, strength and athleticism to potentially defend both power forwards and centers in some lineups. The Blazers are looking to build for the future and Alexander, who signed a multi-year, non-guaranteed contract in July, could be a low-risk, high-reward building block for the future."

During the preseason, Alexander will be listed third on the power forward depth chart and fourth on the center depth chart. The 15th roster spot will likely come down to Alexander, point guard Tim Frazier and shooting guard Luis Montero.
