Report: Defense could be key to improvement for Magic's Oladipo

Guard Victor Oladipo averaged 17.9 points playing 35.7 minutes in his sophomore NBA season for the Orlando Magic last year. The No. 2 overall draft pick in 2013 is in position to become one of the league's standout players as the team tries this season under new coach Scott Skiles to end a three-year playoff drought.

Josh Cohen of the Magic's official website recently posed his five most important questions related to the 6-foot-4 Oladipo heading into the 2015-16 season. Those included questions about his jump shooting, play in pick-and-roll situations and his ability to get to the free-throw line.

Cohen's No. 1 question was if Oladipo can develop into one of the league's elite defenders:

"He has all the tools to be a premier defender. Oladipo showed flashes of it last season. In fact, he was tied for 15th in the league in steals per game. Oladipo led the Magic in charges drawn (eight total) and was amongst the best in blocks for guards (19 total swats). He has terrific instincts and is a punishing on-the-ball defender. However, Oladipo must do a better job contesting shooters on the perimeter. Opponents shot nearly five percent better from the field than their season averages when Oladipo was defending."
