Report: Fulton County to honor Mutombo

Center Dikembe Mutombo is set be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on Sept. 11 and to show their appreciation for his time with the Atlanta Hawks, Fulton County plans to honor Mutombo on Tuesday. From Chris Vivlamore of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

"Mutombo is being honored by Fulton County Board of Commissioners and the Hawks for his success on the basketball court and for his humanitarian efforts. In fact, Mutombo is departing for China from the event on such a humanitarian cause ahead of his induction ceremony in Springfield, Mass. 'We are proud to celebrate the accomplishments and career of a man who excelled on the court and off,' Fulton County Board of Commissioners Chairman John Eaves said in a statement. Dikembe Mutombo’s most significant legacy is away from basketball for his humanitarian work for those in need.'"

Mutombo played in the NBA for 18 years and he spent 1996 to 2001 with the Hawks. The Hawks will retire Mutombo's No. 55 on November 24.
