Report: Hawks sign 7-foot-3 Walter Tavares

The Atlanta Hawks agreed to a multi-year deal with 7-foot-3 center Walter Tavares on Thursday, according to Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Tavares was a second-round pick (No. 43 overall) of the Hawks last season, becoming the first Cape Verde-born player selected in the NBA draft. The center (who is commonly referred to as "Edy") spent the year in Spain for Gran Canaria of the ACB League, averaging 8.0 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 36 games.

Tavares took to Twitter Thursday afternoon to acknowledge his deal with the team.

The 23-year-old is expected to play for the Hawks’ summer league team.
