Pistons select Stanley Johnson and Darrun Hilliard II

With the eighth overall pick in Thursday night's draft, the Detroit Pistons took Arizona small forward Stanley Johnson.

The 6-foot-6, 242-pound Johnson helped the Wildcats to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament this season, averaging 13.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game in his only season at Arizona.

Chad Ford had him at No. 10 on his final Big Board, noting that Johnson was considered a potential star entering college. Ford's biggest concern: "While teams love his NBA body and motor, does he have the skill set or explosive athletic ability to be a star?"

Ford's analysis: "The Pistons needed a wing. They just grabbed the wrong one. ...With Justise Winslow on the board? I think that's a big mistake."

The Pistons used their second-round pick, No. 38 overall, to select Villanova guard Darrun Hilliard II.

Hilliard II averaged 14.3 points per game in his junior and senior seasons for the Wildcats while shooting 39.9 percent from beyond the arc. He was Ford's 77th-ranked prospect coming into the draft.

Ford's analysis: "He's a crafty shooter and good scorer with range. But he's not a great athlete and he's a bit undersized."
