Report: Hiring Van Gundy would be Pelicans' greatest move

Jeff Van Gundy reportedly has interest in the New Orleans Pelicans head coaching position and one local writer thinks that would be a great move by the team. From Jimmy Smith of The Times-Picayune:

"To me, the only potential stumbling block would be a likely push by a powerful coach such as Van Gundy for perhaps the ultimate authority on player personnel. There could be a push back from general manager Dell Demps in that area. But a coach of Van Gundy's stature would justifiably want the ability to craft the roster as he sees fit, shaping the group around Anthony Davis in an attempt to capture the NBA championship that eluded him in New York and Houston. And he should get it. ... Hiring Van Gundy as the head coach would accomplish everything for which the Pelicans could hope: a big-name that would generate some excitement among a show-me-results fan base, a progressive basketball mind, and a coach who would command the respect of his players. If there's mutual interest, the Pelicans should do whatever it takes to see this through from courtship to engagement to nuptials."
