Wednesday's Hawks Links: Bembry is leading the summer league team

Bembry has been Hawks’ best player at summer league: DeAndre’ Bembry had an idea he could play in the NBA. While still in college, he played summer pickup games with the likes of Kyrie Irving and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist at St. Patrick High School in Elizabeth, N.J. If he could hold his own there, he thought, then a career at the next level was not out of reach. After three standout seasons at St. Joseph, Bembry declared early for the NBA draft. The Hawks selected him in the first round with the No. 21 pick last month, and the 6-foot-6 forward has started to show that he belongs in the league. -- The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Hawks to introduce Howard, Bazemore on Wednesday: The Hawks have signed Dwight Howard and the eight-time All-Star will be officially introduced as their new center on Wednesday. The Hawks had scheduled a morning news conference Wednesday to make a “major announcement.” They will present both Kent Bazemore and Howard at the William Walker Recreation Center in Atlanta. -- The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Hawks waive Patterson: The Hawks waived Lamar Patterson on Tuesday. The guard/forward had a non-guaranteed contract and the roster move clears the salary-cap space for the team to complete the signings of Dwight Howard and Kris Humphries. The Hawks have called a news conference for Wednesday to announce the signing of Howard, who agreed to a three-year, $70.5 million contract last week. Humphries agreed to a one-year, $4 million deal on Monday. He could sign his deal in the next several days. -- The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
