Friday's Kings Links: Reaction to the 2016 NBA draft

Kings turn one first-round pick into three in NBA draft: The Kings’ missteps in recent NBA drafts have been numerous. And their latest decision with the first of three first-round picks acquired on draft day was puzzling, to say the least. In one of two trades Thursday, the Kings moved down to select Georgios Papagiannis, a center from Greece, at 13th overall. -- The Sacramento Bee

First-round selection of center is Greek to Kings fans: With the NBA draft taking place Thursday evening, Sacramento Kings fans bellied up to the bars at the Firestone Public House and de Vere’s Irish Pub, thirsting for a young player that will help their team out of a 10-year drought. What Kings fans got instead were two trades that led to three first-round picks for players whose ability to help the team won’t be known until the 2016-17 season starts at the new Golden 1 Center in late October. -- The Sacramento Bee

Kings take Georgios Papagiannis via Suns at No. 13 overall: The Kings have landed their man. After moving down from No. 8 to No. 13, Sacramento made a shocking move, passing on point guard Wade Baldwin and shooting guard Denzel Valentine in favor of center Georgios Papagiannis out of Greece. With this selection, Papagiannis becomes the earliest Greek player drafted in NBA history and he will join his countryman Kosta Koufos on the Kings frontline. -- CSN California

Kings take Syracuse G Richardson via Hornets in 2016 draft: After adding big man Giorgios Papagiannis with the No. 13 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the Sacramento decided to finally fill a position of weakness. Needing a guard in the worst way, the Kings selected Malachi Richardson out of Syracuse University with the No. 22 pick. -- CSN California

Kings draft Kentucky's Skal Labissiere via Suns in 2016: The picks keep coming in Sacramento. After going big with the No. 13 and long with the No. 22, the Kings went big and long at No. 28, selecting Haitian big man Skal Labissiere. After coming in as a five-star recruit, Labissiere disappointed in his only season at Kentucky. He is still considered a tremendous prospect, but he joins an extremely crowded frontline. -- CSN California
