Friday's Blazers Links: Breaking down Stotts' new deal

Stotts' deal good for Blazers: Terry Stotts’ three-year contract extension with the Portland Trail Blazers, which begins after next season, calls for him to make an average of more than $5 million per season over those three years — though the Blazers hold an option on the last season (2019-20). Portland exercised its option for the 2016-17 campaign, which will pay Stotts about $3.5 million. For the three guaranteed years of the deal, Stotts will reap a total package of roughly $13.5 million, or an average of about $4.5 million. -- The Portland Tribune

Great free agents never go to Portland? When have they had a chance?: Some things get repeated so often and by so many different people that eventually, they seem to become regarded as fact -- whether they are or not. And what I'm talking about this time is the oft-repeated assertion that the Portland Trail Blazers have never been able to land a big-time free agent. And while I'll be the first to say that's true, as far as it goes, I would also like to add an extenuating circumstance. -- CSNNW.com

Lehigh coach not surprised at anything Trail Blazers' CJ McCollum does: Brett Reed was CJ McCollum's coach at Lehigh University. He joined The Game's Fletcher Johnson and Chop (weekdays 3-7p on 750-AM and 102.9-FM) on Wednesday to talk about the way McCollum has developed, and why he's not at all surprised at his breakout season. -- The Oregonian
