Wednesday's Hawks Links: The price to keep Al Horford

Bazemore on Atlanta: ‘I would love to return here’: The Hawks have been down this road before. The team signed a player with big upside to a two-year deal, got him into their player development system, put him in the starting lineup and watched as he blossomed. All that was followed by the risk losing the player when he became an unrestricted free agent. Exit DeMarre Carroll. Enter Kent Bazemore. -- The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Ground breaking on Hawks’ practice facility delayed until at least June: The start of construction on the Hawks’ new practice facility has been delayed until at least late June. The $50 million-plus facility was to break ground in mid-May, the team announced at its unveiling in April. Those plans have been pushed back until after the NBA Draft, which will be held June 23. The facility is scheduled to be opened for the 2017-18 season. -- The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

How much it could cost Hawks to sign Horford: Al Horford becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer and makes his first real foray into the business side of the NBA. He signed an extension with the Hawks in 2010 but this summer he will have choices – plenty of them – about where to play next season. Those offers are likely to include a maximum contract. -- The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Hawks organization sends letter to thank fans: The Hawks sent the following letter, from Steve Koonin, Mike Budenholzer and Wes Wilcox, to those on the team’s e-mail list: True Believers, Basketball has long been described as a beautiful, athletic and powerful team game. -- The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Here’s what I’d do with the Hawks’ roster, Horford included: Al Horford: Keep him, but not for max money. As noted in today’s AJC, this is a question without a satisfying answer. If he leaves, the Hawks won’t be as good. If he stays, they probably won’t get any better because they’ll have spent most of their money on maintaining a status quo that isn’t quite good enough. -- The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
