Thursday's Knicks Links: Blatt's connection to the front office

Knicks hiring David Blatt as assistant coach could be best of both worlds for Phil Jackson: Phil Jackson finally got around to conducting a coaching search on Monday when he met with David Blatt, Steve Mills’ former teammate at Princeton. There is an instant connection, of course, since Jackson’s best friend, Bill Bradley, is also a Princeton man. That's three Ivy Leaguers and the one guy that owns 11 rings. Just ask him. -- New York Daily News

David Blatt met with Knicks on Monday to talk head coaching job: David Blatt met with the Knicks on Monday to discuss the head coaching position, although it may have been nothing more than a smoke screen, the Daily News confirmed. Blatt, 56, would seem a long shot considering he is not a Phil Jackson disciple and is known for running the Princeton offense, not the triangle. But Blatt, who was fired by Cleveland this season, is also a good friend and former Princeton teammate of Knicks GM Steve Mills. -- New York Daily News

David Blatt’s Knicks interview wasn’t just a courtesy: David Blatt, who has been holed up in Atlanta with friends, did not fly into New York this week with the impression he was about to take part in a courtesy interview. Blatt, the former Cavaliers coach and Israeli coaching legend, finally got a sit-down with Knicks president Phil Jackson for an interview Monday, according to a basketball source. Knicks general manager Steve Mills, Blatt’s backcourt mate at Princeton, also attended the session. -- New York Post
