Team Cyborg responds to PED claims

Ronda Rousey and Cris "Cyborg" Justino will not fight each other anytime soon -- but they will certainly be asked to talk about the potential of it.

Justino and her management team say it's time to leave the topic of steroids out of the conversation.

As it stands today, if the fight does happen, it's still approximately one year away. Justino, a 145-pound fighter, would need to cut to 135 pounds. Her team has stated that could take nine months.

Rousey (11-0), a longtime vocal opponent of performance-enhancing drug use, has heavily criticized Justino for testing positive for an anabolic steroid in late 2011, for which she was suspended one year.

Last week, the UFC bantamweight champion essentially accused Justino (13-1) of still using PEDs, saying she could "definitely" make 135 pounds if she was clean.

"She can make 135, she definitely can," Rousey told media members. "The thing is, someone that cheats and makes things easier for themselves is always going to try and make things easy for themselves. That girl needs to learn that you're not going to always get advantages put in your favor. You need to learn a lesson and do exactly what all the other girls do.

"Stop taking f---ing steroids and make weight."

When asked specifically whether she thinks Justino is still using, Rousey sighed before answering, "People take steroids because they are insecure, and I don't think her insecurity has gone away."

Justino recorded a first-round knockout win against Charmaine Tweet at Invicta FC 11 this past weekend. Afterward, Justino's manager, George Prajin, called Rousey's recent statements "reckless."

The California State Athletic Commission randomly tested Justino twice ahead of her featherweight title defense vs. Tweet in Los Angeles. Justino was tested again the night of the fight. All prefight tests came back clean, while results of the fight-night test are not yet available. Justino was also randomly tested in Nevada last year ahead of a Muay Thai bout.

"The one thing I do want to say on record is that the accusations of her being on steroids -- come on, it's old," Prajin said. "In the last three years, she's probably had 10 tests. Random tests. So it's kind of reckless for somebody to say that somebody is on steroids when they just passed a test."

Rousey, the No. 1 pound-for-pound female fighter in the world and a former Olympic athlete, has undergone stringent drug testing throughout her life. She also passed a random test administered by the CSAC last month.
