UFC re-signs heavyweight 'Cro-Cop'

Mirko "Cro-Cop" Filipovic is headed back to the UFC's Octagon.

UFC officials confirmed to ESPN.com on Tuesday the promotion has re-signed the 40-year-old heavyweight. Further details on his return date or opponent were unavailable.

Filipovic (30-11-2) has not fought for the UFC since October 2011. The promotion released the well-known martial artist after he suffered consecutive knockout losses to Frank Mir, Brendan Schaub and Roy Nelson.

Through two stints with the UFC -- three fights in 2007 and seven from 2009 to 2011 -- Filipovic has gone 4-6, with all four wins via stoppage. He has 22 career knockout victories, but has also suffered five knockout losses.

Since his UFC departure, Filipovic compiled a 3-1 record in appearances in Japan and Russia. He suffered a first-round submission loss in November 2013 to Alexey Oleinik, who was subsequently signed by the UFC.
