Carmont released by the UFC, will fight on

Francis Carmont has been released from the UFC, according to a social media post by the French middleweight on Wednesday.

Carmont, 32, announced via Facebook that he has been dropped from his UFC contract but plans to continue his career outside the organization.

Fighting out of Tristar Gym in Montreal, Carmont (22-10) signed with the UFC after a five-fight win streak in 2011 and won his first six fights with the promotion to break into the top tier of his division last year. He's hit a rough patch in 2014, however, going 0-3, including a second-round knockout loss to Thales Leites last month.

Frequently described as a "grinder," four of Carmont's six UFC victories came via decision, including the last three. The 185-pound veteran acknowledged his style on Wednesday, saying he had "strayed" from fighting on instinct and started fighting more for points than finishes.

Carmont leaves the promotion with a 6-3 UFC record.
