Vikings' Week 4 playing time breakdown

An analysis of the snap counts from the Minnesota Vikings' 41-28 win over the Atlanta Falcons at TCF Bank Stadium on Sunday:

Offense (76 total plays)

Quarterback: Teddy Bridgewater 66, Christian Ponder 10.

Offensive line: Charlie Johnson 76, Matt Kalil 76, John Sullivan 76, Vlad Ducasse 76, Phil Loadholt 75, Joe Berger 2, Mike Harris 1.

Receivers: Greg Jennings 72, Cordarrelle Patterson 67, Jarius Wright 40, Adam Thielen 9.

Running backs: Matt Asiata 44, Jerick McKinnon 32, Jerome Felton 11.

Tight ends: Rhett Ellison 55, Chase Ford 41, MarQueis Gray 6.

Noteworthy: Coach Mike Zimmer said the Vikings would change their offense somewhat, to accommodate what Bridgewater does well, and the immediate difference was how much time the team spent with three wide receivers on the field. Wright got 40 snaps, and the Vikings were willing to run with three receivers on the field more often than they'd been in the past, as well. ... Bridgewater spent most of the day in the shotgun, taking only seven of his 33 dropbacks from under center, according to ESPN Stats and Information. ... The Vikings held Atlanta without a sack, and Bridgewater was only pressured on 11.5 percent of his dropbacks -- the second-lowest total of any quarterback in the league so far this week. ... The team might have found a solution for its running game with Adrian Peterson out; Asiata and McKinnon split carries on Sunday, and Felton laid a key block on McKinnon's 55-yard run.

Defense (67 total plays)

Defensive line: Everson Griffen 63, Brian Robison 62, Sharrif Floyd 53, Linval Joseph 46, Tom Johnson 23, Shamar Stephen 12, Corey Wootton 9.

Linebackers: Anthony Barr 67, Gerald Hodges 67, Jasper Brinkley 24, Audie Cole 1.

Defensive backs: Harrison Smith 67, Robert Blanton 67, Captain Munnerlyn 66, Xavier Rhodes 66, Josh Robinson 43, Andrew Sendejo 1.

Noteworthy: The Vikings again deactivated rookie defensive end Scott Crichton, giving most of the work at defensive end to their two starters (Griffen and Robison). Robison had a chance at a couple sacks, but wasn't able to bring down Matt Ryan. The Falcons wound up using tight end Levine Toilolo at right tackle after a rash of injuries on Sunday. Asked if that made his life easier, Robison said, "Heck no. They send more guys your way [to help] then. They aren't going to let a tight end block a defensive end. They did it once, and I thought it was pretty disrespectful, but Anthony Barr got the sack, so we're good." ... Hodges, who came into the game with 36 defensive snaps for the year, played the entire game at weakside linebacker on Sunday and nearly doubled his previous total in one afternoon. ... The Vikings were more willing to keep Joseph on the field as part of their nickel package, especially in third-and-short situations where the Falcons had chances to run. The Falcons also used a heavy package early in the game, bringing in an extra lineman like the Patriots did two weeks ago. ... Robinson had to get treatment on his hamstrings during the game, but he held up well in coverage.

Top special-teams contributors: Sendejo (20 snaps), Michael Mauti (20), Jabari Price (20), Antone Exum (20), Joe Banyard (18), Thielen (18), Cole (16), Marcus Sherels (15), Gray (14), Berger (13).
