Patterson says overtraining caused injury

MANKATO, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson took another step toward returning to practice on Sunday morning. Patterson took part in the Vikings' walk-through on their third day of practice, and coach Mike Zimmer said he could return to a full practice as soon as Monday night, when the Vikings practice under the lights at Blakeslee Stadium.

"It's a possibility. We've talked about it," Zimmer said. "We'll just have to see where he is [Sunday] afternoon and [Monday] morning."

Patterson told reporters after the walk-through that he hurt his foot while training in Los Angeles a few days before camp. He believed he did too much work in his training session and "tweaked" his foot slightly, he said.

He was able to do some running on Saturday afternoon with safety Andrew Sendejo, who is on the physically-unable-to-perform list, and said he's been getting treatment from trainer Eric Sugarman since arriving at camp. It seems possible the Vikings would wait until after their Tuesday off-day to get Patterson back on the practice field, but in any case, his return doesn't seem far away.
