Vikings: Matt Asiata back at practice

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings got Matt Asiata back on the practice field on Wednesday, meaning they could have some decisions to make at the running back spot by Sunday.

Asiata, who missed Sunday's game with a concussion, returned in a limited capacity during Wednesday's practice. Running back Jerick McKinnon sat out on Wednesday with a low back strain, as he did last week, but the Vikings will likely have the rookie on the field on Sunday. Joe Banyard gained 45 rushing and receiving yards on eight touches last Sunday, and the Vikings claimed Ben Tate off waivers last week. It's not likely they'd have use for four running backs on Sunday, so a deactivation against the Carolina Panthers (or a roster move before then) could help resolve the logjam.

Wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson did not practice on Wednesday, after sustaining knee and ankle injuries on a kickoff return against the Green Bay Packers Sunday, and safety Harrison Smith also sat out with shoulder and ankle injuries. Tight end Chase Ford, who broke his foot before training camp and has missed time with a foot injury this season, didn't practice on Wednesday, and the Vikings' injury report listed a hamstring ailment in addition to his foot problems.

Defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd, who didn't play on Sunday with a knee injury, missed practice on Wednesday, but Zimmer said Floyd will play Sunday.

Left tackle Matt Kalil, who had knee surgery in the offseason and said on Monday his knee is still bothering him "on and off," was limited in practice on Wednesday. He got a day off to rest his knee last Friday, and the Vikings seem to be taking more steps to manage the injury as the season goes on. It will be interesting to see if Kalil needs to have any further work done on his knee once the season ends.

Linebacker Anthony Barr was the only other limited participant for the Vikings on Wednesday, missing part of practice with a knee injury.
