The Miami Dolphins, by all accounts, has a solid offseason. They hired a new offensive coordinator (Bill Lazor), fixed their left tackle situation (Branden Albert) and mostly stayed healthy and productive during training camp and the preseason.  However, none of that mattered in ESPN.com’s latest NFL Power Rankings. The Dolphins came in at the bottom third of the league at No. 22. That means our panel doesn’t expect much from Miami this year. Other teams such as the New York Giants (No. 20), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (No. 19) and Atlanta Falcons (No. 17) were rated higher than the Dolphins.
I voted the Dolphins in the middle of the pack at No. 16, which is on par with my projected 8-8 record this year. I don’t expect Miami to be a bad team or an elite team this year. But there is enough talent on the roster to remain in the playoff hunt through December. The Dolphins were rated third in the AFC East behind the New England Patriots (No. 3) and New York Jets (No. 21). The Buffalo Bills were rated No. 29 in ESPN.com’s rankings. Miami will host the Patriots in Week 1 Sunday at Sun Life Stadium.
