Ranking Dolphins' top offseason needs: No. 4 running back

The 2015 season is officially in the books with the Denver Broncos winning the Super Bowl on Sunday. That means every team starts fresh in 2016, and it’s time to begin the offseason.

With that in mind, ESPN.com’s Miami Dolphins page will rank the team’s biggest needs this week.

No. 4 need: Running back

Pending free agents: Lamar Miller

Analysis: There is a good chance starting running back Miller doesn’t re-sign in Miami. Miller said after the season that he will look for a team that can best use his skills, and that is an area where the Dolphins routinely dropped the ball the past two seasons. If the Dolphins fail to re-sign Miller, running back becomes a big need. Fifth-round pick Jay Ajayi showed a few flashes late in his rookie year but not enough for Miami to instill 100 percent confidence that he could be the full-time starter. The Dolphins are pretty thin after that and must address this position via the draft or free agency. The starting tailback will have an important role in rookie head coach Adam Gase’s offense. This is a position where Miami needs a productive player. It currently remains a mystery if that player isn’t Miller.
