Dolphins' Mike Pouncey praying for training partner Stedman Bailey

DAVIE, Fla. – Many players around the NFL have a heavy heart this week for St. Louis Rams receiver Stedman Bailey, who was shot twice in the head on Tuesday and remains hospitalized.

The incident happened in the Miami area and hit close to home for Dolphins Pro Bowl offensive lineman Mike Pouncey, who knows Bailey.

“I feel really bad for him,” Pouncey said. “I train with him in the offseason. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. Obviously, you don’t want anything like that to happen to a guy like that.”

Pouncey is not alone. Players from all over the league have expressed concern for Bailey, who is from South Florida.

Here are some other notes:

  • There is growing optimism that Dolphins starting outside linebacker Jelani Jenkins (ankle) could return Sunday against the New York Jets. Jenkins practiced Thursday for the first time this week and looked better than expected, according to interim head coach Dan Campbell. "It's still day-to-day for him, but I was encouraged," Campbell said. "Jelani has been a rock for us."

  • Dolphins players, particularly the linemen, were happy their weekly weigh ins were Thursday morning ahead of Thanksgiving dinner. "[Campbell] did it today and that's our weigh in," left tackle Branden Albert said. "Guys are going to get real plump today."

  • Miami's nine penalties in last week's loss to the Dallas Cowboys is something that bothered both players and coaches. Campbell said the preparation has been heavily focused on reducing that number.
