John Clayton says 2015 could put Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill 'over the top'

ESPN senior writer John Clayton has seen a lot of good quarterbacks come and go during hisĀ four decades covering the NFL. So when Clayton speaks highly of a player, his opinion matters.

It turns out Clayton is high on Miami Dolphins starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill. On Wednesday, Clayton wrote Tannehill is trending upward and the 2015 season "could put him over the top."

“Tannehill might not be receiving the appreciation for how good he is and how good he will become,” Clayton wrote Wednesday. “Excluding quarterbacks drafted in the past two years who are still trying to build resumes, Tannehill is establishing himself as perhaps the fifth-best quarterback to come into the league since 2009.”

Clayton writes Tannehill already has surpassed recently-drafted quarterbacks such as Andy Dalton of the Cincinnati Bengals and Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers, and I agree with that statement. I would take Tannehill over both aforementioned quarterbacks entering this season, despite his fewer wins in Miami.

Tannehill is getting mostly thumbs up from the national and local media entering his fourth season. This is the best I’ve seen him throw the football and others are taking notice.
