DAVIE, Fla. – For football fans who enjoy trench play, new Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been fun to watch this summer. Suh has been dominant in practice and the preseason and offered a glimpse of why Miami paid him $114 million this offseason.

Suh offered some insight this week on what helps him win in the trenches.

“My goal is always to put an offensive lineman in a tough position,” Suh explained. “So whether that’s having them overset or underset, whatever they may particularly call it, I want to always have an offensive linemen in a bad position and you do that by getting off on the ball.

“That’s most important in my aspects of the game is to get off the ball, have them on their heels rather than on their toes, and ready to strike and being in a great position.”

Suh has drawn two false starts this preseason. Those penalties showed the mental edge Suh has over opponents in anticipation of the snap.

Most are aware of Suh’s brute strength and physical ability. But Suh also is a smart player and student of the game. The combination is what makes him an elite game-changer.

ESPN’s recent NFL Rank project rated Suh as the No. 4 player in the league, which is very high praise. The Dolphins' defense has very high expectations with Suh anchoring the middle of the defensive line.
