DAVIE, Fla. -- Here is a quick warning: Do not believe much of what you hear from NFL teams the week leading up to the draft. Every club is playing it close to the vest and only willing to tell you what it wants you to know.

With that said, the Miami Dolphins certainly had high praise for Georgia running back Todd Gurley during Friday's pre-draft news conference.

"He's a talent. He's definitely a player that his ability stands out and shines," assistant general manager Eric Stokes said. "He's an exciting guy to watch. We've enjoyed working through that process with him and seeing him. From there, we'll see where things shake out."

Does this mean Gurley is a target for Miami at No. 14? Not necessarily.

The Dolphins have a 1,000-yard rusher in Lamar Miller. Gurley also is coming off a serious knee injury that could keep him sidelined for the start of the regular season.

But Gurley is one of the draft's most intriguing prospects because he is so dynamic. When healthy, Gurley is clearly a top-10 talent. Some scouts and analysts believe he is the best tailback prospect since Adrian Peterson. Injury is the only thing that may drop Gurley into the middle or end of the first round.

Any team -- including the Dolphins -- that considers drafting Gurley must consider the strong possibility of not getting instant production in return.

"We always look at things in short-term value and long-term," Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey said. "It's a balance. Obviously, some guys have more payoff in dividends in the longer term and others in the short-term. You weigh that with every prospect and that's how you place them on your board."
