Grading Mike Tannenbaum's drafts: 2009

New vice president Mike Tannenbaum is about to embark on his first NFL draft with the Miami Dolphins later this week.

But before looking ahead, we're taking a look at Tannenbaum’s past drafts. On Monday, we take a look at his 2009 draft.

Analysis: This is a somewhat tricky draft to grade. The Jets drafted just three players, and all of them contributed to their playoff runs in 2009 and 2010. However, this thin class overall still didn’t live up to its potential. New York made a major trade to move up and land Sanchez. Tannenbaum was confident that Sanchez was a franchise quarterback. Although Sanchez did win early and help lead the Jets to back-to-back AFC title games, he never lived up to what Tannenbaum and then-head coach Rex Ryan expected. The Jets held onto Sanchez as a starter too long, and that was one reason both Tannenbaum and Ryan were eventually fired. Greene produced back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, which is solid for a third rounder. Slauson also was a three-year starter for the Jets as a sixt- rounder. Tannenbaum got a lot of production from three players. But Sanchez not developing keeps the grade low.
