Dolphins lead AFC East in remaining cap room

The AFC East has been wheeling and dealing more than any division in the league this offseason.

The Miami Dolphins agreed to the biggest contract for a defensive player in NFL history ($114 million) with Pro Bowl defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. The Buffalo Bills added Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy and tight end Charles Clay, while the New York Jets acquired Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis and receiver Brandon Marshall.

According to ESPN Stats and Information, the AFC East spent more guaranteed money than any division this offseason.

With that in mind, here is the latest salary cap information based on NFLPA records:

  • 1. Dolphins: $11.959 million

  • 2. Jets: $11.861 million

  • 3. Bills: $7.341 million

  • 4. New England Patriots: $6.148 million

The Dolphins and Jets have the most flexibility to continue making offseason moves to improve the roster. Miami still has needs at wide receiver, guard and linebacker.

Also keep in mind that a solid portion of this cap room for all four teams will be spent on signing a new rookie class.
